Eugenic States: A Contextual Archive

Looking at Eugenic Practices Across the Nation

Eugenic ideas were widely contested across the United States, including within the states where sterilization was legal. In what follows we have taken data from both our primary sources - sterilization recommendations and other archival records - and analyzed them along with publicly available data sets like the US Census. The resulting data visualizations give us and you different views on how eugenic practices emerged and declined in various parts of the United States and allow some differences and similarities between states to emerge.
